DMR benefit day - Come out and shred the gnar on January 13, 2013 at Durango Mountain Resort! DMR Benefit Days, a.k.a. Local Days, offer reduced priced lift tickets and all the procedes from that day are donated to a local non-profit. On this Sunday, the beneficiary is the Regional Substance Abuse Prevention Program (RSAPP). RSAPP is the sponsor of LPYS Americorps member Claire Sheridan, along with 16 other Americorps members doing awesome prevention work in Southwestern Colorado. So come on out and show your support! *Think snow*

Healthy Kids CO Presentation

Come learn about how to help the next generation make healthy choices! On Thursday, October 25th from 5:30-7 pm at the Fairgrounds, La Plata Youth Services and San Juan Basin Health are hosting a presentation of the data collected from the Healthy Kids CO Survey. Information will be presented about Colorado as a whole as well as La Plata and Durango specifics. We will discuss perceptions vs. reality on issues that affect youth, as well as the 40 developmental assets our kids need to be successful. We offer a light dinner and refreshments for participants and childcare will be available. If interested in joining, please contact Claire. See you there!

Apple Days!

Next weekend we have a super fun opportunity to get in some community service. Saturday, October 13th, we will need volunteers to run around to farms and yards all over Durango picking and harvesting apples. There’s even a bike brigade! Sunday, October 14th, more volunteers can help press these apples into cider in Buckley Park from 11-4. Come out and enjoy the live music and fresh cider in good company!
